✓ All fats are not bad. While excessive intake of certain fats (like saturated and trans fats) can be harmful, essential fatty acids are vital for body functions, and fats provide concentrated energy.

Many people associate 'fat' with being unhealthy due to the prevalence of junk food, which often contains unhealthy fats. They don't differentiate between different types of fats or understand their essential role in the body.

✗ Carbohydrates are the most important nutrient for growth.

✓ While carbohydrates provide energy, proteins are primarily responsible for the growth and repair of body tissues. They are crucial for building muscles, skin, hair, and enzymes.

Students often hear that carbohydrates are 'energy-giving' and might assume that's their only function, or that all food components contribute equally to all body functions. They might not clearly distinguish the specific roles of different macronutrients.

✗ Eating a lot of fruits and vegetables means I have a balanced diet.

✓ A balanced diet means consuming all essential nutrients (carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals, roughage, and water) in the right proportions. Eating a lot of one healthy food doesn't make the diet balanced.

Students might think that if a food is 'healthy' (like fruits or vegetables), eating a lot of it automatically makes their diet balanced, neglecting the need for other nutrients like proteins or healthy fats.

✗ Cooking always destroys nutrients, so raw food is always better.

✓ Cooking can indeed destroy some heat-sensitive vitamins (like Vitamin C) and minerals can leach into water if overcooked. However, cooking also makes many foods digestible, destroys harmful bacteria, and makes certain nutrients more bioavailable.

Students might overgeneralize the negative effects of cooking they've heard about (like vitamin loss) and conclude that cooking is always detrimental, without understanding its benefits for safety and nutrient absorption.

✗ Deficiency diseases like Scurvy or Rickets can spread from person to person.

✓ Deficiency diseases are caused by a lack of specific nutrients over a prolonged period. They are not contagious and cannot be spread from one person to another.

Students often confuse deficiency diseases with infectious diseases, which are caused by pathogens and can spread. They might not understand the fundamental difference in their causes.

✗ Roughage provides energy and nutrients to our body.

✓ Roughage (dietary fiber) does not provide any nutrients or energy to the body. Its main function is to aid digestion, add bulk to the food, and help in the smooth movement of bowels, preventing constipation.

Since roughage is part of food and important for health, students might incorrectly assume it also provides energy or other nutrients, similar to carbohydrates or proteins.
